Speaking and Teaching
̌
I love public speaking.
Whether that’s on stage for an audience or pitching to a client, I’m in my element when I’m sharing my excitement around projects, ideas, and telling stories. My talks focus on what I’ve learned by going viral, the intersections of brands and culture, and workshopping with audiences on how to best tell their stories for greater impact.
I’ve presented keynote talks, panel discussions, and fireside chats at SXSW, Duke University, Tulane University, University of Texas at Austin, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, American University, the Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans, OMR Hamburg, Red Bull, and more.
I teach undergraduate courses on the history of pop culture, fan culture, and visual culture with an emphasis on contemporary impact at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of New Orleans. The course focused on the development of pop culture movements and contemporary media studies. Extra credit was offered to students who went to a live taping of Jerry Springer or auditioned for a reality show.
I was the co-instructor at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for “Punk 101, The Future of ‘No Future’” course on music history from the 1960s to 1980s. The course illustrated the intersection of movements in pop culture, art, literature, and youth culture through punk music. We often had special guests perform like The Mekons.
