young girls are funny, smart, and engaging--that oftentimes they know more than their parents! While a lot of similar projects position young girls as curious and open to be taught by STEM professionals (and almost always with no verbal lines or character development), my goal was to highlight that these young girls are incredibly intelligent and just need access and encouragement. I developed The STEM Game Show to center the girls' voices and intelligence with a sweet surprise twist.
I was approached by Turner Ignite Studios, the in-house creative studio at Turner Broadcasting, to develop a new and unique concept for The Ad Council's "She Can STEM" initiative. The audience was both young girls and their parents and the video project would be disseminated across Turner Broadcasting social media channels, like TBS' YouTube channel, reaching millions of viewers. I wanted to combine the historic accomplishments women in STEM have already made, while making it clear that

Like most of us, I was watching the presidential debate on October 19, 2016 when I heard Trump say under his breath “such a nasty woman” about his opponent Clinton. I immediately mocked up a Nasty Woman T-shirt, put it on Instagram, and woke up to 20,000 emails and 10,000 orders...all by 9 AM.
My tongue-in-cheek design went globally viral 3 times and continues to be a best-seller. You can read more about that experience in the article I wrote for Vice. To further promote my Nasty Woman design, I teamed up with a number of brands, celebrities, influencers, nonprofits, and artists to create original digital content and event activations.
The Nasty Woman T-shirt was included in dozens of videos, like this video by Racked:
The shirt has raised over $137k for organizations including:

The Nasty Woman Game is a hilarious and timely social party game that harnesses the power of politics and pop culture to allow players to say what they really think. Through a series of prompts and actions, the game gets players laughing and talking about the issues of today.
And because it’s based on improvised responses, the player sets the tone—comedic, serious, or downright irreverent.
The Nasty Woman Game was released in August 2018, followed by a US game tour.
The Nasty Woman Game is published by Penguin Random House and can be found in stores everywhere.
Design by Maria Hinds. Illustrations by Erin K. Wilson.
For ongoing promotion the game is used for interactive digital content:

Original research and dissertation on the close culture that emerged online around Twilight fans and how they changed the economic landscape of the Pacific Northwest towns where the story was set.
Project consisted of on-the-ground research and developing new and original content around the 1,000% increase in tourism that small towns experienced because of the popular vampire series. Thesis was presented across the country at conferences and became the basis of a video installation at Chicago’s Concertina Gallery.
